(Zaragoza. Thursday, February 13, 2025). Organized by the Department of Geography and Territorial Planning at the University of Zaragoza and the research group Urban Landscapes and Contemporary Projects, the I Cycle of Conferences Territory and City. Rethinking the Territory, Redesigning the City will take place from February 26 to March 26 at the Paraninfo and the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The first session of the I Cycle of Conferences Territory and City will begin on February 26. This interdisciplinary forum will address current urban and territorial challenges. Under the slogan “Rethinking the Territory, Redesigning the City,” the cycle will bring together renowned specialists in territorial planning, architecture, and geography to discuss key issues such as adapting to environmental challenges, the revitalization of peri-urban spaces, the housing crisis, and the role of local action in urban transformation.
Each session will feature a moderator and will be open to public participation, encouraging debate and the exchange of ideas among professionals, academics, and citizens on topics that represent a collective responsibility and require urgent, informed responses. The speakers and topics are as follows:
- Jorge Olcina, Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis at the University of Alicante, will discuss the role of territorial planning in adapting to environmental challenges (February 26). Presented and moderated by Francisco Pellicer.
- Sara Protasoni, Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, will explore peri-urban spaces as an opportunity to rethink the territory (March 12). Presented and moderated by Carmen Díez.
- Ricardo Méndez, Professor of Human Geography at the Complutense University of Madrid, will address the housing crisis and its urban implications (March 19). Presented and moderated by Ana Isabel Escalona.
- Maria Buhigas, Chief Architect of the Barcelona City Council, will discuss the importance of local action in redesigning the city (March 26). Presented and moderated by Javier Monclús.
All conferences will be held at 6:00 PM. The first one will take place in the Pilar Sinués Hall of the Paraninfo at the University of Zaragoza; the following three will be held in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business (Gran Vía, 2).
