(Zaragoza, Tuesday, November 5, 2024). Following the success of its first edition, the University Institute for Environmental Sciences of Aragon (IUCA) is launching a second edition of its lecture series “Stories of the Earth”, which will take place throughout the 2024/2025 academic year. The series is designed to bring IUCA’s research closer to the general public through monthly talks held across the three provinces of Aragon, showcasing the work of the institute’s diverse research groups.
The cycle will begin in Zaragoza on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:30 PM, at the Water and Environmental Documentation Centre of Zaragoza (CDAMAZ), with a talk dedicated to research in Environmental Health. Specifically, the session will focus on ticks and how scientific research can help protect us from these arachnids. The lecture will be given by Antonio Beltrán Rosel, a medical microbiologist, member of the Water and Environmental Health research group, and adjunct professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zaragoza.
Science and Current Challenges at the Heart of the Series
The series will continue on a monthly basis in various venues across Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel, with talks addressing topics such as: the study of camelids, innovations in the teaching of experimental sciences, the biological role of melatonin over its 2.5 billion years of history, research on climate and landscape changes experienced by early hominins, and the management of water resources in Aragon throughout history. The program will offer diverse perspectives on the health of the planet, including its connections to human, animal, and environmental health.
With an engaging and accessible format, this second edition of “Stories of the Earth” will also include ‘Walks with Science’, outdoor activities in urban and natural settings that invite participants to explore Aragon’s natural and cultural heritage, while promoting environmental awareness and deeper knowledge of our immediate surroundings.
