Second Archaeological Excavation Campaign at the Paridera de la Dehesa

(Zaragoza, Tuesday, April 1, 2025). Between March 10 and 29, the second archaeological excavation campaign was carried out at the Paridera de la Dehesa site, located in the municipality of Muel (Zaragoza). The site consists of a collective tomb dated between 2800 and 2500 BCE, corresponding to the Chalcolithic period, and its study is providing key insights into the funerary practices of prehistoric communities in the middle Ebro Valley.

The excavation work was directed by Marina Bretos (P3A-IUCA) and professional archaeologist Javier Fanlo, as part of the research project PID2022-140671NB-I00: Funerary Records and Paleoanthropology in the Recent Prehistory of the Middle Ebro Valley, led by Jesús V. Picazo (P3A-IUCA).

In addition to the scientific work at the site, the campaign included several outreach activities aimed at the general public. Highlights included a public lecture given by Marina Bretos on March 15 in the town of Muel, and an open day on March 22, which attracted a large number of visitors interested in learning firsthand about the progress of the research.
