Our member of IUCA, Alfredo Ollero Ojeda, a professor in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning at the University of Zaragoza received on Friday May 3 Environment Award 2012 by Ecologists in Action of the Bank .
Alfredo Ollero, belongs to the group Climate, Water and Global Change from Land Studies Strategic Area of the Research Institute of Environmental Science (IUCA) and he is a founding member of Iberian River Restoration Centre.
The prize was awarded on the grounds that he is a strong advocate of a little-known habitat, which is clearly committed to the defense of rivers.
In justifying the award, also noting that planning is key to mitigating flood risk, basis for a coherent and adaptive man with the river and its extreme processes. The great task of the XXI century is the restoration of rivers, for which we must recover hydrological freedom and channel sediments. Having achieved this complex natural system will recover alone. For environmental entity, our challenge is to adapt our territory and our activity to the river, so that we may receive their services, which we generate flood damage but only benefits and not suffer the consequences of our actions.
