Meeting point: Pasarela del Voluntariado (La Almozara side)
(Zaragoza, Wednesday, June 12th, 2025).
La Almozara, also known as the “barrio de La Química” (Chemical District), owes its name to the intense industrial activity it hosted for decades, particularly linked to the Zaragoza Chemical Industry. Located on the banks of the Ebro River, within its floodplain, this urban environment presents a unique geography and environmental history.
During this geological and environmental tour, led by researchers from the BEAGLE and Geotransfer groups, we will explore the neighborhood’s interaction with the current course of the Ebro River, as well as the legacy of industrial activity left beneath its surface. We will analyze the natural and human processes that have shaped this territory and take a closer look at the environmental contamination that still lingers, with particular attention to its ecological impact.
This activity is organized by the “Ebro” Neighborhood Association of La Almozara and the University Institute for Environmental Sciences of Aragon (IUCA) at the University of Zaragoza, with the collaboration of the La Almozara Municipal Board.
