Presentation of the Book Teaching the Holocaust at the Centro Sefarad-Israel

(Zaragoza, Wednesday, June 11, 2025). On Friday, June 6, 2025, Professor Miguel Ángel Pallarés Jiménez, researcher with the ARGOS-IUCA group, presented the book Teaching the Holocaust, published by Prensas Universitarias de Zaragoza in 2024 and coordinated by Pallarés himself, at the Centro Sefarad-Israel in Madrid.

The presentation took place within the framework of the Yad Vashem (Jerusalem) alumni meeting, held on June 5 and 6 at the same venue. The event was coordinated by Eliana Rapp, head of the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking education team at the International School for Holocaust Studies, and Rosa Méndez, head of Education, Holocaust, and Antisemitism at the Centro Sefarad-Israel.

The book offers a rigorous and diverse approach to Holocaust education, combining the historical context with a deep reflection on its ethical and pedagogical implications. It provides resources for analyzing this key episode of the 20th century, addresses controversial topics such as heritage linked to Nazi violence, and highlights the role of education —both formal and non-formal— as an essential tool for forming critical citizens committed to democratic values and respect for diversity. The volume also includes practical didactic proposals for working on these topics in the classroom.

Miguel Ángel Pallarés is a professor at the Faculty of Education of the University of Zaragoza, within the Department of Specific Didactics (Area of Social Sciences Education). He is a researcher with the ARGOS Group, part of the University Institute for Environmental Sciences of Aragón (IUCA).
