ARGOS EN

Presentation

The aim of the activity of the group ARGOS is to foster research, technological development and innovation in the various contexts in which education in geography, history and heritage takes place, whether in educational centres or in museums, social networks or indeed any form of physical or digital space.

To this end, the group works along various lines connected with heritage education. The starting point is always to investigate in due depth the range of problems associated with the development of historical and geographical thinking and the process of heritage management, while keeping within the framework of research in the field of the didactics of the social sciences.

The research aims are directly linked with improving the quality of life in terms of access to culture: the conservation, defence and promotion of the cultural heritage, the development of creative leisure options and of the potential of cultural tourism.

The group ARGOS is a pioneer in promoting citizen science projects in the context of heritage.

Its collaborations and transfer are organized through OTRI projects and agreements and through the spin-off HPLab History & Development SL (initially presented under the name PATRHIS-lab), dedicated to cultural management, heritage management and the organization of cultural events linked to the heritage, created in November 2017.

Lines of investigation

  1. Heritage education and educommunication.- Research into the process of heritage management, evaluative analysis of cultural and didactic activities connected with heritage, analysis of communication and the generation of knowledge in educommunicative processes related to heritage; analysis of the elements that define the processes of identization and appropriation of heritage as a symbolic identitary element of a community; support and assessment of activities associated with the development of tourism based on the cultural and natural heritage; optimization of systems of geographical information in educational products linked to the cultural and natural heritage.
  2. Foundations and metaconcepts of historical and geographical thought.- Research into sources of historical and geographical knowledge of various groups; the difficulties of understanding the concepts of historical and geographical thought, and the definition of scales of progression with their diversion to civic development.
